What is the mid-market exchange rate?
The mid-market rate is the midpoint between the global buy and sell prices for a currency pair — essentially the "real" exchange rate before any provider adds their own margin. It's the benchmark rate used by banks and financial institutions, and the rate we display across the site.

Why is the rate I see here different from my bank's rate?
Banks, money transfer services, and exchange counters typically add a margin on top of the mid-market rate, which is how they generate revenue on currency exchange. The rate you see on New Rates Tracker is the mid-market reference rate, not a specific provider's buy/sell rate — it's meant to give you a fair benchmark to compare offers against.

How often are exchange rates updated?
Rates are updated daily to reflect current market conditions.

Why do exchange rates change?
Exchange rates fluctuate based on a range of factors, including interest rate decisions by central banks, inflation data, economic growth figures, political and geopolitical events, and overall market supply and demand for a given currency.

Are the exchange rates on this site accurate for large transactions?

How does the currency comparison tool work?

Can I use historical data to predict future rates?
